“Staph” is short for staphylococcus, which is a type of bacteria that is commonly found on the skin or in the nose. It can cause swelling and painful red lumps, bumps and sores on the skin. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a type of staph infection that has become resistant to antibiotics. Staphylococcus aureus is usually a harmless type of bacteria, but can become an infection if they get into the skin through a bite or a cut.
As staph bacteria are resistant to many treatment methods, novel treatments are being sought, especially for more serious cases of MRSA. Cannabinoids like THC, CBD, CBG, CBC and CBN have been shown to have potent activity against MRSA, as has alpha- and beta-pinene.
